Chris Mattice, wife, mother of three, and a personal coach with StressCenter.com has spent nearly 19 years helping those with Anxiety & Depression. She has been coaching approximately one hundred people a year through this 15-week cognitive behavioral program, one of the nation’s biggest non-pharma approaches to tackling anxiety and stress.
The Attacking Anxiety and Depression® Coaching is designed to cater to individual needs while also helping to understand concepts and principles in the Attacking Anxiety and Depression® program. Studies show that those who work with an Attacking Anxiety and Depression® COACH have the capacity to streamline effective, positive changes. This can be a trying journey and having a partner to help tackle the obstacles can make all the difference. I will help keep you committed and accountable to achieving your own personal goals and will be with you every step of the way.
We caught up with Coach Chris to ask her more about her journey.
Q: How long have you been doing anxiety and depression coaching?
A: I’ve officially been working with stresscenter.com, formerly The Midwest Center for Stress & Anxiety for just over 19 years.
Q: And is this something you planned to do for your career?
A: Not at all. I worked in family medicine for about 10 years and then was a mom for about the same time. Working for stresscenter wasn’t really in the plans back then.
Q: So, what brought you to this role?
A: Ever since college, where I studied medical technology, I’ve been fascinated by medicine and mental health. My journey took a meaningful turn one day at my kitchen table, chatting with friends about our struggles with anxiety. That conversation was a turning point: a friend introduced me to the Attacking Anxiety and Depression program, which opened my eyes to the deep connection between emotions, physical health, and, through my faith, spiritual well-being. Inspired to make a difference, I began formalizing ways to support others and became a stress coach, dedicated to helping people navigate their own paths to healing.
Q: Your faith has helped and grounded you in many ways, yes?
A: Absolutely, without Jesus I would be lost. He guides me in my life and in my coaching. Knowing that He loves me and sees me gives me great peace.
Q: How do you think big events like 9/11 and COVID have shaped your work?
A: These are national traumas that affected everyone. To be honest, with COVID, we are just now starting to see the healing that will be needed, especially in depression and anxiety. Experiences like Covid and 9/11 are great opportunities for growth. They can reveal limitations or places where we can get stuck and challenge us to confront these vulnerabilities. When we stay open to change, they offer opportunities to build resilience, adapt, and discover new strengths.
Q: You have been doing this a long time. What have you learned about growth along the way?
A: Over thousands of hours coaching, I’m continually struck by the uniqueness of each person’s story. Yet, beneath our differences, we share the same deep desires: to live free from fear, to feel loved, and to find lasting peace.
Q: So, you’re still on this road, this journey with them?
A: Yes, I am learning and growing every day, and I will always refer to myself as a ‘fellow journeyer.’ It is a great privilege to walk alongside someone who has the courage and desire to change.
